I was contracted as Lead WordPress developer on this project, along with Stacy Kvernmo as front-end developer. SICI, at The Harvard Kennedy School Center for Public Leadership, worked with DevCollaborative and Pentagram to develop a fresh, unique look for their new site. I built a child theme for Astra with block templates for posts and events, and a plugin for a “Person” custom post type.
The “Meet our Community” page was fun to build – we created fields to control a selectable background color for each person’s portrait, and used FacetWP to set up filters for the “Person” post type’s taxonomies and custom fields. It’s a colorful, dynamic way to showcase all the different people working in the SICI organization.
The main navigation is Adobe’s Accessible Mega Menu, implemented in the custom child theme. The client had a requirement to meet WCAG AA guidelines, so we paid special attention to accessibility throughout the site.
