Raising Special Kids

raisingspecialkids.org was on a proprietary platform; it was expensive to maintain and difficult to update. They’d recently updated their brand, and wanted to combine a redesigned website with a migration to WordPress for its ease-of-use and lower costs.

Designer/front-end developer Stacy Kvernmo created a child theme for the Astra Pro theme and styled embedded third-party forms and widgets to match the overall look-and-feel.

I installed & configured plugins to provide the functionality of the former proprietary CMS, and wrote some custom code to fill in the gaps and make everything work together.

  • The Events Calendar, including filter bar.
  • WPML translation plugin to manage the Spanish-language version of the site.

After a couple training sessions, the client was very comfortable with WordPress’s Gutenberg editor, and they set up the bulk of the content and media themselves.
